Kausar Nag (Kounsarnag/Konsernag) is a spectacular high-altitude alpine lake nestled deep in the Pir Panjal mountains of Kashmir. Surrounded by rugged mountain peaks, expansive alpine meadows and pristine wilderness, the lake offers a truly remote trekking experience away from the usual tourist routes.
The journey to Kausar Nag is an adventure in itself, with Aharbal and Kungwattan forming part of the traditional trekking approach. The trail takes trekkers through forests, open meadows and high-altitude mountain terrain before reaching the lake. JKTDC describes Kungwattan as the halfway point of the two-day trek to Konsernag Lake, which is also the source of the Veshu River.
With its dramatic landscapes, peaceful surroundings and challenging mountain trails, Kausar Nag is an ideal destination for trekkers looking to experience the raw, offbeat side of Kashmir—where the journey is as rewarding as the destination itself.
